Transgender Cosmetic Surgery| WebClinic 2026

This WebClinic was recorded live on April 15, 2026, and is approximately 90 minutes.

Topic:  Transgender Cosmetic Surgery
Speaker: E. Antonio Mangubat, MD, FAACS
Moderator: Ashu Garg, MD

Gender-affirming surgery is both technically complex and deeply human. This engaging, visually rich presentation explores above-the-waist gender-affirming surgical care across the transgender and gender-diverse spectrum, integrating surgical technique, aesthetic principles, and real-world clinical considerations. Led by experienced surgeons, the session examines facial feminization and masculinization, chest reconstruction, hair restoration, and laryngeal procedures — while emphasizing patient-centered goals, safety, and individualized pathways of transition. Designed for clinicians seeking both technical insight and cultural competence, this lecture provides practical guidance grounded in anatomy, proportion, and respect for gender diversity.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the activity, the learner should be able to:

  1. Identify and compare common masculinizing and feminizing gender-affirming surgical procedures above the waist, including facial, chest, hair, and laryngeal interventions, and describe their aesthetic goals within the transgender and gender-diverse continuum.
  2.  Analyze key pre-operative considerations for gender-affirming surgery—such as hormone management, medication risks, hair removal, weight considerations, and psychosocial readiness—to optimize surgical safety and outcomes.
  3. Apply principles of gender-specific aesthetics, anatomy, and proportion to surgical planning in facial feminization, facial masculinization, and chest reconstruction procedures.

Target Audience

Practitioners in the field of cosmetic surgery including, but not limited to, dermatology, general surgery, and plastic/reconstructive surgery.
