Topic: GLP Weight Management and Other Hormone Replacement Issues
Speaker: Misty B. Eller, ANP-C
Moderator: Ehab Akkary, MD, FACS, FAACS

Description

This presentation provides a practical, clinically focused approach to the evaluation and management of obesity and metabolic health.  It begins with the multifactorial contributors to weight gain and progresses into the physiology and clinical application of modern metabolic therapies. Attendees will review  medication therapies, including mechanism of action and dosing strategies, treatment response, and resistance. It will also explore the role of adjunctive therapies and peptides, with an emphasis on evidence, appropriate clinical application, and individualized treatment. Real-world clinical considerations and case-based examples will be used to connect the science to the everyday patient.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the activity, the learner should be able to:

  1. Recognize the multifactorial drivers of obesity and metabolic disease, including lifestyle, hormonal influences, and physiologic adaptations that contribute to weight gain and weight-loss resistance.

  2. Explain the mechanisms, clinical applications, and practical use of incretin-based therapies including patient selection, dosing strategies, macrodosing, side effect management, and treatment limitations.

  3. Develop individualized treatment plans that integrate lifestyle modifications, hormone optimization, pharmacotherapy, and adjunctive therapies to improve long-term metabolic health and patient outcomes.
